In this activity students start with a blank TI-Nspire document and construct a dynamic environment that they can use to explore the standard transformations of functions:  f(x+a), f(x)+a, f(a∙x) and a∙f(x). This approach allows  students to take much greater ownership of the mathematics and helps them to get a good feel for what the algebra is doing.

There is a 2-page student handout providing guidance for those who are familiar with the TI-Nspire functions as well as more detailed, step-by-step technical support for those who need it.

A tns file is available showing the four basic transformations and a suggested extension in separate problems.
